JEMILA MACEWAN Spring Earthwork (copper irrigation pipe)
(proposed for 2021)
Earthwork (copper irrigation pipe)
Diameter 100'

'Spring' is a permanent ring of green vegetation fed by an invisible source – a circular copper irrigation pipe. The work is only visible in times of drought, when the surrounding earth is dry and other vegetation is dead. Spring references the life-giving properties of underground bodies of water often invisible to us, as well as the season of Spring a time of hope, abundance and renewal. In Australia climate driven fires and drought mean that Spring is now the onset of fire season – bringing forth feelings of dread and fear. Spring is a living monument to a more hopeful relationship with the regenerative animacy of the earth.
