'Casa' was created in response to the cultural and natural environments of San Pablo Etla, Oaxaca, Mexico in the week following the Dia de los Muertos celebrations. 'Casa' embraces the material process of paper mâché – a ubiquitous staple in Mexico for constructing ephemeral festive and symbolic objects – to examine the function of long lasting cultural traditions from the transient position of a visiting artist. 'Casa' approaches this relationship by drawing on vulnerability and reciprocity as resources for cultural production.
